Bird of Paradise Takes Flight

Reconnecting Rainbows Press is delighted to announce the publication of Bird of Paradise, the first solo poetry collection by writer, podcaster, and activist Christina-Jae Angel.

Inspired by the changing seasons in the Welsh mountains, Angel looks back on growing up as a Black transgender woman and on the long journey towards love, safety and acceptance. The collection makes space for painful memories alongside joy, comfort, cultural identity and the possibility of a life beginning to blossom.

Angel’s poems explore the realities of being trans in the UK with honesty and tenderness. They also celebrate her Caribbean and Indian heritage, and the strength found in claiming a place to call home. Bird of Paradise is a searching collection about what we carry from the past, what we choose to keep, and what can grow when we are finally able to be ourselves.

At Reconnecting Rainbows Press, we believe marginalised storytellers deserve the space to tell their stories in their own words. We’re proud to publish a collection that holds both the difficulty and the beauty of Christina-Jae’s experience.

Bird of Paradise is published on 11th October 2026 and is available in paperback and eBook. Readers can find ordering options on the book page. A London launch will take place at The Poetry Café on Thursday 15th October.
